ELECTRONIC TRANSACTION SECURITY TIPS



Security of your accounts is important.

The following tips are supplied to enable you to
assist Defcredit protect your funds when using:

Visa Debit or Credit cards with a Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Phone Banking & Bpay via Defcredit Direct with a Password

Internet Banking with a Password or Token Key




YOUR CARDS


  • Sign any new cards as soon as you receive them.
  • Never give your card/s to someone else to use.
  • When your card expires destroy it by cutting it through the magnetic strip on the back and through the microchip (if there is one).
  • When making purchases don’t let your card out of your sight. This reduces the risk of someone copying your cards’ magnetic strip for use on counterfeit cards.

YOUR PIN’s & PASSWORDS

  • Don’t tell anyone your PIN/s or Password/s.
  • Destroy any advices of new PIN/s or Password/s Defcredit may send you.
  • Don’t record your PIN/s or Password/s on your card or on any other banking documents.
  • Don’t keep any records of PIN/s or Password/s with or near your card.
  • When creating new PIN/s or Password/s don’t use anything that could be easily associated with you or be guessed by someone else such as: Dates of Birth; phone numbers; addresses; relatives or pets details. Use something which is unique and that only you would know.
  • Change your password/s regularly.
  • When entering your PIN or Password ensure no-one can observe your actions (be aware of the location of security cameras)
  • Remember to log off when you have finished internet banking.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • Lock your letter box to help prevent your mail from being stolen.
  • Notify Defcredit immediately if your address and/or contact details change.
  • Before disposing of any documents make sure any personal information is destroyed or properly shredded

HOAXES & SCAMS

  • Don’t respond to any unsolicited phone calls or emails you receive which contain requests for your PIN, Password, card or account details even if they look like they came from Defcredit. Defcredit will never ask you to disclose your security details in this way
  • Make sure you have up to date security software on any computers you use for online banking and to make internet purchases.
  • Whenever possible when internet banking only use computers you know are safe and avoid internet cafés, hotel and airport lounge terminals.

LIABILITY FOR UNAUTHORISED TRANSACTIONS

  • Defcredit subscribes to the EFT Code of Conduct which sets out in full the situations where you could be liable for any unauthorised transactions involving your cards, PIN’s or Passwords.
  • Your liability for loss will be determined by the EFT Code of Conduct rather than by these guidelines.

LOST OR STOLEN PINS & PASSWORDS


  • You must notify us as soon as you become aware or suspect that:



















- Any unauthorised transactions appear on your account
- Your PIN/s or Password/s have become known to someone else
- Your card or Token Key has been lost, stolen or used to make unauthorised transactions
  • You should check your statement for unauthorised transactions as soon as you receive it.
  • If any of these things happen you should change your password/s immediately and tell us as soon as possible.
