WA Sports day and Nautical Mile Run
|
On the 5th May, the WA Sports Day Challenge was held by Navy Gym West. The competition based on and around HMAS Stirling, saw the ‘Fleet’ team (ship based competitors) battle it out against the ‘Establishment’ team (land based competitors). It was a fun filled day of sports such as golf, soccer and beach volleyball, where all involved enjoyed some healthy competition and a few laughs at the same time.
The spectacle of the day was the Defcredit sponsored Nautical Mile Run. We put up a great range of prizes for place getters including $50 Defcredit accounts plus caps, bags and t-shirts. Our staff were on deck to cheer on the competitors from the Defcredit stand, and were happy to pass on some casual banking advice to spectators.
A crowd of over 150 people turned out to watch the Establishment team win the day. But the fleet team competitors vowed that next time they would be bringing their ‘A-Game’ to the field.

Who makes the best cheesecake?
|
Jaymima does. ‘The Biggest Morning Tea’ was held on the 28th May where AIR CDRE Gavin Davies scored Jaymima Andonoras’s Mars Bar Cheesecake, the winning entry of the AFHQ Bakeoff.
It was a great day in support of the Cancer Council and a great day for everyone’s taste buds
as well.

Family fishing fun
|
Over 100 family members joined in for the third annual ‘Day Out at the Barra Fishing Farm’, sponsored by Defcredit. With help from the Salvos the Army and the Air Force Fishing Club,
all mums, dads and kids alike had a great time snagging their catch of the day, then finished
up with a few snags on the barbie. To top it off, A-League soccer players David Williams
and Osama Malek joined in, giving a speech to the kids and presenting them with certificates recognising their participation.

Getting behind NQ rugby
|
Defcredit is continuing to back the North Queensland Army Rugby Union team, sponsoring their games in Rockhampton, Cairns and Townsville. This season, the boys are up against some of the strongest competition they’ve faced since we started our sponsorship in 2004, with teams like Navy, QLD Country and the QLD Rugby Rep zone team – all looking to regain the Chancellors Cup from the James Cook University team. Make sure you get along to a match before they all wrap up in October. Visit www.armyrugby.org.au for details.
